Measured from the wall to the center of the rod: 10.5 inches on 12-inch-deep shelves, 12.5 inches on 14-inch-deep and 14.5 inches on 16-inch-deep shelves.

The shelf, brackets and rod are solid hardwood, handcrafted in the USA from U.S. lumber and coated with an eco-friendly finish.

• Natural oak is solid red oak in its own light, warm tone.
• Brown oak and dark brown oak are solid oak in a brown or dark brown finish.
• Walnut is solid walnut.

Solid wood varies naturally in grain and tone, so each piece is unique and may differ slightly from our photos. Matching an earlier WoodNest order? Send us 4–5 photos of it taken in natural daylight and we'll try to match it, though an exact match can't be guaranteed.

Screwed into wall studs, two brackets held 150 lb in our tests. Shelves 48 inches and wider come with a third bracket. Spread the weight evenly along the shelf and the rod rather than loading one end.

On drywall with the included anchors, plan for 50–80 lb. How much a wall holds depends on the wall itself, so we can’t promise more.

It’s strongly recommended: brackets screwed into studs make the shelf far stronger and steadier. On shelves longer than 48 inches, mount at least two brackets into studs; on shorter shelves, at least one. Drywall anchors come in the box for spots without a stud; on anchors alone, plan for 50–80 lb, depending on the wall.

The shelf, the hanging rod and its brackets: 2 on shelves up to 44 inches wide, 3 on shelves 48 inches and wider. With each bracket come a Striplox wall connector, 3 wood screws that fix the shelf and the rod, 3 screws for wall studs, and 3 drywall anchors with 3 screws.

Screw a Striplox connector to the wall for each bracket, into a stud wherever you can. Slide the rod through the brackets, then press each bracket firmly down onto its connector until it is fully seated; the fit is tight on purpose, to keep the shelf steady. Secure each bracket with a screw from below. Finally, set the shelf on top, fasten it with two screws into each bracket, and fix the rod with one screw per bracket. You’ll need a drill.

Every shelf is made to order: production takes 7–9 business days. Shipping is then free within the continental U.S. by UPS, USPS or FedEx, with tracking. Estimated transit after production:

Shelves in a standard size can be returned or exchanged within 14 days of delivery if they are unused and in their original condition and packaging. Shelves cut to a custom width can’t be returned for a change of mind.

Shipping for an exchange, or for a return because of preference or fit, is yours to cover; for a confirmed manufacturing defect or shipping damage, we cover the return shipping. Eligible refunds are processed within 3–5 business days after we receive and inspect the return.
