Why it holds up

  • Handcrafted closet shelving system made from solid wood – natural finish with smooth edges

    Solid wood, end to end

Shelf, brackets and rod are all solid hardwood, so the grain runs all the way through. There is no MDF or veneer to chip or peel.

  • Solid natural oak shelf – perfect for folded clothes, shoes, and accessories in closets

    Shelf and rail in one

A solid wood rod runs through the brackets just under the shelf: folded clothes go on top, hangers below.

  • Wooden frame with black wall mount brackets on a white background

    Hidden wall connectors

Each bracket presses down onto a Striplox connector screwed to the wall. The fit is snug by design, and the connector stays out of sight behind the bracket.

  • Closet shelving made of premium hardwood – durable and sleek solution for home organization

    Cut to your exact width

Pick a standard width from 24 to 65 inches, or enter your own measurement and we cut the shelf to it.

  • Wooden storage shelves in natural finish

    Four finishes

Natural oak, brown oak, dark brown oak or walnut, each with an eco-friendly finish.

  • Minimalist wooden closet organizer system

    Tested to 150 lb

Two brackets screwed into wall studs held 150 lb in our tests. Shelves 48 inches and wider come with a third bracket.

FAQs

Which size should I choose?

Standard widths run from 24 to 65 inches and depths from 12 to 16 inches; the sizes offered for this shelf are in the menus above. Need a width in between? You can order an exact one, as explained below.

Can I order an exact custom width?

Yes. Select the next standard width up, tick I need an exact width above the Add to cart button and enter the width you need. You pay the price of the standard size, and we cut your shelf to your measurement.

How far from the wall is the hanging rod?

Measured from the wall to the center of the rod: 10.5 inches on 12-inch-deep shelves, 12.5 inches on 14-inch-deep and 14.5 inches on 16-inch-deep shelves.

What is it made of, and what do the finishes mean?

The shelf, brackets and rod are solid hardwood, handcrafted in the USA from U.S. lumber and coated with an eco-friendly finish.

  • Natural oak is solid red oak in its own light, warm tone.
  • Brown oak and dark brown oak are solid oak in a brown or dark brown finish.
  • Walnut is solid walnut.

Will the color match the photos?

Solid wood varies naturally in grain and tone, so each piece is unique and may differ slightly from our photos. Matching an earlier WoodNest order? Send us 4–5 photos of it taken in natural daylight and we'll try to match it, though an exact match can't be guaranteed.

How much weight can it hold?

Screwed into wall studs, two brackets held 150 lb in our tests. Shelves 48 inches and wider come with a third bracket. Spread the weight evenly along the shelf and the rod rather than loading one end.

On drywall with the included anchors, plan for 50–80 lb. How much a wall holds depends on the wall itself, so we can’t promise more.

Do I need to mount it into wall studs?

It’s strongly recommended: brackets screwed into studs make the shelf far stronger and steadier. On shelves longer than 48 inches, mount at least two brackets into studs; on shorter shelves, at least one. Drywall anchors come in the box for spots without a stud; on anchors alone, plan for 50–80 lb, depending on the wall.

What comes in the box?

The shelf, the hanging rod and its brackets: 2 on shelves up to 44 inches wide, 3 on shelves 48 inches and wider. With each bracket come a Striplox wall connector, 3 wood screws that fix the shelf and the rod, 3 screws for wall studs, and 3 drywall anchors with 3 screws.

How do I install it?

Screw a Striplox connector to the wall for each bracket, into a stud wherever you can. Slide the rod through the brackets, then press each bracket firmly down onto its connector until it is fully seated; the fit is tight on purpose, to keep the shelf steady. Secure each bracket with a screw from below. Finally, set the shelf on top, fasten it with two screws into each bracket, and fix the rod with one screw per bracket. You’ll need a drill.

How long until it arrives?

Every shelf is made to order: production takes 7–9 business days. Shipping is then free within the continental U.S. by UPS, USPS or FedEx, with tracking. Estimated transit after production:

  • East Coast: 1–3 business days
  • Midwest: 2–4 business days
  • West Coast: 6–7 business days

These are estimates, not guarantees. Need it by a certain date? Contact us with your deadline and ZIP code.

Can I return or exchange it?

Shelves in a standard size can be returned or exchanged within 14 days of delivery if they are unused and in their original condition and packaging. Shelves cut to a custom width can’t be returned for a change of mind.

Shipping for an exchange, or for a return because of preference or fit, is yours to cover; for a confirmed manufacturing defect or shipping damage, we cover the return shipping. Eligible refunds are processed within 3–5 business days after we receive and inspect the return.

Where else can I use it?

Anywhere a shelf and a rail work together: an entryway for coats, hats and bags, a bedroom, a kitchen for dishes, jars and spices, or a garage or laundry room to keep tools and supplies tidy.
